How soon can you plan something?
Day-of coordination can come together in about a week. For full planning, three weeks or more is best. Many families hold the celebration a month or two after the death, especially after a direct cremation, and that's completely fine.
Do I still need a funeral home?
In Michigan, yes. A licensed funeral director has to handle the body, the death certificate and the permits. I don't do any of that. I plan the gathering, which can be separate and happen later, anywhere. I'm happy to help you compare funeral home prices.
Is it religious?
Only if you want it to be. I plan secular, religious and mixed celebrations, and I'll work with your clergy or a celebrant. I don't officiate myself, but I can recommend people who do.
Can friends hire you, not just family?
Yes. Chosen family, roommates, a band, a gaming group, a group of coworkers. If you're the people throwing the party, I'll work with you.
How do payment and cancellation work?
Half the planning fee holds your date and the rest is due a week before. If plans change, I'll refund the deposit minus time already spent and any vendor costs that can't be refunded. Life is unpredictable right now; I'll be reasonable.
Where do you work?
Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and the rest of Washtenaw County. I'll travel farther for a mileage fee.
Can we have alcohol?
Yes, served by a licensed caterer or the venue's bar. I can help you find one.
